Susan asks…
A question for ‘doozer 80′ Did you receive my answer>?
Yes, go to:http://www.xmarks.com/ and install X Marks. (It’s free)
This lets you synchronise bookmarks/favourites between Firefox and IE.
It also saves you favorites/bookmarks so that when you reinstall your laptop just then reinstall X Marks and when you put your password in you will get all your bookmarks back.
However, make sure that you synchronise before you do your reinstall.

Noel answers:
Yes, I recieved

Firefox 3.5.2 Laggy? How do I fix this?
Again another computer question, because I never seem to know the answer.
My firefox is very laggy after about, oh, an hours use. What can I do to fix this? Maybe drop down to another firefox version?
Regardless, directions are required. I have the following add ons and am using windows: Ad Block Plus, XMarks, Meebo, Any Color, Colored Tabs, Cooliris and Download Status Bar

Noel answers:
One of your addons has a memory leak and is killing your resources.
Try disabling them one by one, until you find out which has the leak.
I have had issues with cooliris in the past so that one is suspect. Try disabling this one first, and run Firefox for a couple hours. If there is still a slowdown, more onto disabling the next one in your list.
I use Adblock Plus with no issues, so I doubt that is the cause.
Keep an eye on your resource monitor and see which seems to be raising the memory footprint of Firefox while running.

Paul asks…
Google Chrome or Mozilla Friefox?
I use a netbook instead of a notebook, and am currently using mozilla firefox and have been doing so for a long time now.
However, I have recently come across reports that Google Chrome provides a faster browsing experience. Given that netbooks are slower than notebooks in general, the improved speed of google chrome is something which is quite appealing.
On the other hand, I have come to a stage where I’ve customised my firefox browser to a certain extent with the add-ons firefox makes available. I dont use too many, but mainly speed dial, xmarks (for storing bookmarks on a server so you can sync your different computers with the same bookmarks), 1-click weather, littlefox (makes the browser very compact to maximize viewing area – important for small netbook screens), and brief (an RSS feed application).
Apparently, Chrome doesnt provide add-ons like firefox at the moment.
So my questions are:
-is it really a significantly faster browsing experience (have you tried both?)
-does it have functions/add-ons similar to or enought to replace the current ones I’m using at the moment with firefox?
-In your experience, how did you find Google Chrome (and if you’ve used firefox, then how do they compare?)?

Noel answers:
Firefox, it displays pages better for me.
However, it lets more pop ups for me too. That’s annoying. I added “Ad Block Plus” to Firefox; it helps keep the pop ups down. But even with Ad Block Plus, Firefox still lets through more pop ups than Chrome or even IE.
But to answer your question once again, use Firefox; it has displayed pages better for me than Chrome.

Thomas asks…
Is there a server script that will allow me to securely sync my bookmarks to my own web server?
I’m looking for something that would allow me to sync all my Firefox bookmarks onto my personal webserver (LAMP based). So a php/mysql script would be best.
I’d like to work over SSL so that everything is encrypted too. Doesn’t need a frontend, but that would be a plus…
Any ideas? I heard about xmarks… but I’m afraid about lack of compatibility once the service closes down in Jan 2011…

Noel answers:
Your server side script (LAMP or otherwise) will have no control of your browser, so you will have to get and pack your browser bookmarks with JavaScript or something else and then send the resulting file (?) to the server.
In which case you might as well export bookmarks in HTML format manually and upload the file to your secure server.

Jenny asks…
My Browser crashes when I visit youtube?
Hi, this incident has happened before many times, and it was easily solved just by restarting my computer or using CCleaner. But now its happening again and I have tried EVERYTHING that I know to fix it… This goes for all of my Browsers. (e.g. Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Internet Explorer) Basically this is what happens: I go on youtube for a few seconds/log in youtube, then it freezes firefox and then when I close it, it says Firefox Not Responding. Can anyone help? This is really bothersome and Youtube is what I go on mostly everyday.
If it helps, these are my computer specs:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium x64 bit
Processor: AMD Turion(tm) II Dual Core Mobile M500 2.20 Ghz
Firefox addons:
Flagfox
Hide Menubar
Smart Bookmarks bar
Xmarks
Greasemonkey
Adblock Plus
BetterSearch

Noel answers:
Try re-installing windows.. And check for viruses.

Steven asks…
How do I manage my favorite bookmarks?
I’ve used google, chrome, delicious, xmarks. Nothing does what i want. I need:
- Use more that one computer and be able to access *most* links over all computers
- Be able to click one link to view a group of sites I want based on category (news, food, work)
- Ability to tag each page with multiple tags, not just file it in a folder (like google makes you do)
What do you use? What works / what doesn’t? Am I alone in needing something to manage all my bookmarks?

Chris asks…
Is there a term for sites that require your cell phone # prior to viewing?
I like reporting scam sites, phishing emails etc…but I often come across silly sites for quotes or lyrics that show a pop-up. The pop up is telling you to enter your cell phone number to view the content. Obviously (to me anyway) I would not randomly give out my number…I just want to know if there is a term for this? It’s not phishing right? I do have WOT and use it, but also search w/Swagbucks which WOT does not show up on…so then I will rate the sites on WOT and Xmarks. Anyhow, it’s annoying
thanks

Noel answers:
It’s a form of phishing, yes, and you should report it. Also, kudos to you for not falling for it.

Google Chrome is the best in terms of speed but in terms of over all, firefox is the best. Your question can/should be answered more clearly by this video:

Freedom Debt Relief Quarterly Comment: Spending, Debt Shot Up Prior to Holidays
San Mateo, Calif. (PRWEB) January 25, 2012
At the end of 2011, with consumer confidence higher and unemployment down, consumers opened their wallets and spent during November and December ? a trend that could indicate a worrisome direction for consumer debt, according to the Freedom Debt Relief Quarterly Comment on consumer debt and credit issues.
Recent data from the Federal Reserve Board indicates that consumers went deeper into debt for both revolving and nonrevolving credit accounts in November 2011. Other statistics show that holiday retail spending in December was at least 4.7 percent higher than the same period in 2010.
?When spending and debt increase, but income stays the same or declines, it?s a problem for any budget,? said Kevin Gallegos, vice president of Phoenix operations for FDR. ?After the strain of several years of economic struggle, seeing revolving debt increase can mean people are giving in to the temptation or the need to rely upon credit to meet their household needs. When total debt begins to climb, we become concerned that those charges are not being paid off and could result in financial trauma for many Americans.?
The latest Federal Reserve statistics show that total consumer debt increased consistently during 2011, rising by 2.3 percent from the first quarter to the last. While that percentage might seem small, Gallegos noted, the total amount consumers owe has gone up by more than $ 56 billion since Q1 2011. To put that figure into perspective, it equates to every American age 18 and up owing $ 240 more than they did last January.
